Overview
We comprise students from the five Medical schools of the Republic of Ireland, namely:
Additionally, Singaporean students who are studying Dentistry in the Republic of Ireland are also included as part of SMSI. The following schools offer Dentistry as an undergraduate course:
All the universities listed are accredited by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and the Singapore Dental Council (SDC). Only graduates whose degrees are recognised by the SMC / SDC are eligible to apply for registration to practice in Singapore.
- National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG)
- Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)
- Trinity College Dublin (TCD)
- University College Dublin (UCD)
- University College Cork (UCC)

UPDATE: From 01/01/2020 onwards, only Trinity College Dublin (TCD) will remain accredited by SMC. Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Cork (UCC) will still remain accredited by SDC.
Singaporean and Permanent Resident students who have secured places in UCD, UCC, RCSI and NUIG medical programmes before Jan 1, 2020 will not be affected by the change.
FOR OFFER HOLDERS: As long as your University’s Letter of Offer for entry to medicine is dated before 1 January 2020, you will be eligible to apply for employment and medical registration. It does not matter if you enrol later e.g. in 2021. Ensure that you keep the offer letter and other application documents in good order as these documents may be needed to support your application for future employment/medical registration.
