SMSI Pre-statement

Dear SMSI,

I have been made aware of the joint statement released by SMC and MOH to cut the number of Overseas Medical Schools being listed on the List of Registrable Basic Medical Qualifications. (The statement can be found here.)

However, this will not affect any current members and the incoming year 1s. (The list only takes effect from 1 Jan 2020 and does not affect anyone who has started studying in the universities before that.)

The affected universities from Ireland are RCSI, UCD, NUIG, UCC.

The SMSI committee will be meeting to discuss and analyse the implications on SMSI as a whole and how do we move on from here as a society.

Do approach me or any of the committee members if you have any queries and concerns and we'll address them as a whole.
