On 8th February, we ushered in the Year of the Rat trying to escape from an escape boat followed by a scrumptious spread at Lee Kee Chinese Restaurant in Dublin. We started off the day at the Square Ball which is a private game room filled with all sorts of activities. There were board games, video games and even a table tennis table for us! We took turns having a go at the escape room called The Escape Boat, which we found stressful yet stimulating. We were 'captives' on a boat who had to escape before the captain returned and ship us off to Australia.
In the evening, we gathered at Lee Kee where we had a 10 course Chinese meal, complete with the mandatory Lou Hei to bring in the fortune and prosperity! It was definitely a joy to see our friends from different universities again and catching up over dinner. There is no better way to start the Chinese New Year with our Irish family. As per tradition, the results of the new SMSI committee elections were announced at the dinner. This came after weeks of fervent campaigning online. Our current president, Joey Soen handed over the baton to Teo Yu Qing and the current committee would like to congratulate everyone who got elected. This CNY dinner was a bittersweet event as it was our committee's last event but we were able to end our SMSI term with our big SMSI family. We cannot wait for what the next committee has to bring! Love, SMSI Committee '19/20
