On the 4th of February, Singaporean medical and dentistry students from all over Ireland congregated in Dublin for our annual Chinese New Year celebration. It was a day of fun and laughter as old friendships were rekindled and new ones made. The day started in the late morning where we headed off for an afternoon of Zorb football and Archery! None of us had played Zorb football before and it was a game unlike any other - each player was encased in a bubble! To make things even more interesting, goggle soccer was also introduced, distorting our vision and causing all sorts of mayhem. It was sadistically funny seeing hands flailing helplessly around, and people running/rolling in wrong directions. Archery was also great fun as we played adaptations of various games such as archery tag and dodge-arrow. Suffice to say, we were all exhausted after the intense day of activities, and all the calories burnt meant we were looking forward to the CNY dinner even more.
Dinner was at Jojo's restaurant, a Chinese restaurant situated in the city centre. The overwhelming response for the dinner meant we had to book the entire restaurant! It was great having good authentic Chinese food but even better was seeing everyone together again, where we could share our experiences and stories with each other, making jokes and laughing at the day's events. During our annual CNY dinner, the new committee was announced. Daniel and Celestial made their closing speeches and handed SMSI over to the new committee to Audrey and Lydia as our new president and Vice-president! The night ended with Karaoke for everyone. One room for Chinese songs and the other for the English songs, both overflowing with Singaporeans singing their hearts out. This was truly a day to remember for many of us. Although CNY was not spent at home in the little red dot, it was more than made up for by being able to celebrate it with our "extended" family on this slightly bigger green island!
