SMSI kicked off this summer with it's annual Freshmen Orientation to welcome it's new intake of medical and dentistry freshmen. Students from all five subsidiary schools (TCD, UCD, RCSI, UCC & NUIG) gathered for two days and participated in a time of heart pumping and adrenaline-filled games followed by a heart warming time of fellowship over dinner. This event was aimed to help new students connect with one another so as to aid them in the transition to Ireland as they start their long awaited journey into university as well as to allow them to get to know their seniors through a fun time of games and activities.
The first day of orientation was held in Sentosa. Six groups of teams gathered and battled with one another in various station games over both land and sea. Everyone had an amazing time running in the sand and cooling off in the water over the many stations. The day ended with a mass game of water bombs and everyone was dismissed for dinner and to rest for the following day. A friendly competition was held at Fort Canning Park the next day to see which school was the best. Teams were arranged according to schools and were pitted against one another in various stations. Everyone had an amazing time and was a good sport. The orientation capped off with a mass game once again followed by a scrumptious meal over at Suan Thai where everyone gathered to laugh and reminisce over the past two days. We would like to thank all our participants for being such good sports as well as our volunteers whom which, none of this would be possible. We are truly thankful for everyone's support in helping make this such a successful event. The SMSI Committee would also like to thank our event sponsor Overseas Singapore Unit (OSU) on behalf of the entire community for their support.
