Every year, SMSI organizes a Pre-Departure Dinner in Singapore for our graduated, current and soon-to-be medical and dental students from the different colleges across Ireland to get to know one another within the Society. It promises to be a fun and informative session.
The 2015 Pre-Departure Dinner was held in the prestigious Hotel Jen (Tanglin) with a delicious buffet spread. The programme of the night included the annual Table Quiz as well as a panel discussion with doctors and dentists from the Irish Graduate Association of Singapore (IGAS), who shared about their experience living overseas and how they made the adjustment when returning to Singapore for work.
Our panel consisted of the following medical professionals:
Prof Lee Kok Onn
Senior Consultant / Head of Endocrinology in NUH
Professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine
Final Year Examiner for Trinity College Dublin
A/Prof Mok Yee Ming
Consultant / Chief of General Psychiatry / Head of ECT in IMH
Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School
Dr Ong Hean Yee
Senior Consultant / Head of Cardiology in KTPH
Dr Teo Yee Hong
Senior Consultant / Chief of Adult Reconstruction (Orthopaedics) in TTSH
Part of the Synergy Orthopaedic Group in Mt Elizabeth and Mt Alvernia Hospitals
Undergraduate Clinical Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine
Dr John Smith
General Dentist / Periodontist in Q&M Dental Group
Dr Lee Sze Min
Vice-President of IGAS
After a short sharing from each doctor, there was a Question & Answer session for members of SMSI to ask any further questions. Dinner followed soon after and students got a chance to speak to the doctors over some nice food.
The SMSI Committee would like to thank IGAS and the panelists for coming down to speak to us, Hotel Jen (Tanglin) for the venue as well as MOHH for its continued support.
